A Fertile body is a healthy body, baby or not

In our last blog post, we shared about the magical powers of ovulation, how our body's ability to release an egg each month provides the possibility for another human being. We learned that the benefits of ovulation extend beyond baby-making, and that ovarian hormones make us stronger and healthier by building our metabolic reserve. And who doesn't want that?!

In the creation of our products, Dana and I became obsessed with the phrase, "A healthy body, means a fertile body". 

A healthy body, means a fertile body

 We define a fertile {female} body as a body that could ostensibly conceive and have a baby. (Of course sometimes there are structural or genetic complexities that make this more difficult, and that's not what we are talking about here).  

In order for a body to conceive it needs to be well nourished, relaxed (not in fight or flight mode) and having menstrual cycles. The best way to tell if your body is fertile (without getting pregnant) is to pay attention to the quality and regularity of your cycle.  The more regular your cycles are and the less bombarded they are with symptoms, the healthier your reproductive system is.

In her book, The Fifth Vital Sign, Lisa Hendrickson-Jack likens a healthy menstrual cycle, i.e. a fertile body to the fifth vital sign ( 1-4 being blood temperature, blood pressure, pulse (heart rate) and breathing rate (respiratory rate)).

Baby or no baby, a healthy cycle is important for health! 

Ovulation is critical to fertility, but it's not the only indicator of health. A lot happens throughout a cycle to prepare the body for ovulation, and to successfully complete a menstrual cycle, pregnant or not.

And ALL of these steps contribute to a fertile body.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard women say that they are afraid to be fertile because they do not want to get pregnant.
